OIL RADISH

Oil radish is a member of the cruciferous family, with both annual and biannual forms. Oil radish plants create an elongated taproot, reaching as deep as 120-150cm, and producing many side branches. Oil radish has recently become a valuable and much sought-after fore crop to potatoes.

Its highly developed, profuse root system loosens the soil and aerates it, and ultimately contributes large quantities of organic matter. Oil radish is characterized by intensive initial development. From emergence to first leaves and later leaf rosette, the development of oil radish is much faster than that of oilseed rape.

Oil radish has similar cultivation and fertilizing requirements as spring oilseed rape.
