BROMUS INERMIS

Bromus inermis

Forage type

A tall, perennial grass species forming loose tufts. Smooth bromegrass has a well developed root system, reaching down to 2 meters. It is a winter hardy species withstanding severe winters with little or no snow cover. Smooth bormegrass is rather adaptable in terms of soil requirements and it is also tolerant to prolonged flooding, although it develops best on lighter, well aerated, calcium-rich soils. As a tall grass species, it is most suitable for multi-cut, meadow mixtures.

Smooth bromegrass is moderately competitive in comparison to other grasses. It produces fodder of average nutritive quality.
